Deadpool is the franchise starter Ryan Reynolds deserves. After making rom-coms, mediocre comedies, and one truly terrible superhero movie, Reynolds has finally landed the role he was born to play. Even better, the movie studio gods see fit to make this an R-rated romp. Continue reading

Mr. Deeds (2002)

This remake of the Frank Capra classic Mr. Deeds Goes To Town is probably more relevant for being Winona Ryder’s first film after being busted for shoplifting than any sort of quality that might be found in this film. Continue reading
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013)

Sally
The trailer for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug promised me a dragon. Not only a dragon, a giant lizard with the silvery pipes of Benedict Cumberbatch. I was super excited. An Unexpected Journey left me underwhelmed, but a dragon! Awesome, right? Of course, in typical Peter Jackson fashion I was forced to wait well over an hour before the dragon even shows up. Continue reading
Despicable Me 2 (2013)
IMDb
Sally
Despicable Me was surprisingly good. It blended a strange, almost subversive sense of humor with a sweet story and cool soundtrack to set itself apart from the animated pack. It’s not crazy to assume that this same recipe would work a second time around. But Despicable Me 2 comes up a bit short. Continue reading
Despicable Me (2010)

I didn’t have high expectations for Despicable Me. Despite the growing number of excellent animated films coming from studios other than Disney and Pixar, I’m always skeptical of feature films not coming from the big two. Continue reading
Dr Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (2000)
IMDb
Sally
Dr Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas is an absolute gem. I know it nearly by heart, singing along to the catchy songs and quoting the script right along with Boris Karloff. I am of course talking about the 1966 animated television special, not this live-action version that tries way too hard. Continue reading
Die Another Day (2002)

Sally
Most people probably remember Die Another Day as the James Bond movie with Halle Berry in it. I remember it as the one with the horrible Madonna song. But really it should be remembered as the 007 movie that barely improves on the The World is Not Enough mess. Continue reading
Dune (1984)

Sally
Dune is a mess from start to finish. I could barely follow what was happening, and was bored about two minutes into the opening narration. If you’re going to use the word “spice” seven times in such a short span of time you better be Jamie Oliver or Geri Halliwell. Otherwise I just don’t care. Continue reading

Oh, there was a prequel to Dumb & Dumber in which neither Jim Carrey nor Jeff Daniels appears? Literally no one’s prayers have been answered. Continue reading
Dumb & Dumber (1994)
IMDb
Sally
I have not-so-fond memories of my dad watching this movie every time it aired on television. It was terrible, because no one else in the family liked Dumb & Dumber at all, yet we were subjected to it at least once every 4-6 months over the span of about three years Continue reading
