Unlike most of the other crappy films in my DVD collection, I actually know why I own this. When I was at university, I had to write an essay on “Pinocchio” and used this tale of a robot yearning to become a real boy as a reference. Steven Spielberg made this film as a tribute to his recently deceased friend, Stanley Kubrick. Continue reading

Arthur (2011)

This is the remake of the Dudley Moore classic of the same name starring Russell Brand in the lead role. I’ve not seen the Dudley Moore version so was able to go in with limited expectations. This film got trashed by critics and audiences alike, but I feel like it was being compared to the previous version which I feel is unfair. Continue reading
Armageddon (1998)

This isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but if you want a mindless action adventure, you can’t go wrong with this Michael Bay directed and Jerry Bruckheimer produced flick about an asteroid hurtling towards earth and the attempt to stop it. There are plot holes aplenty in this film, every time I watch it, I think to myself ‘wouldn’t it be easier for NASA to train some astronauts to drill a hole rather than teaching hole drillers to be astronauts?’ Continue reading
Argo (2012)

This was the best movie I saw in 2012 outside of The Avengers. The climax of Argo is one of the most suspenseful I’ve seen in a long time. This is more impressive when you take into account that walking into the theatre, I knew exactly how this true story played out. Continue reading
Any Given Sunday (1999)

This American football film is pretty epic. I’m hard pressed to think of a sports film that is as gritty as this attempts to be. Most of the sports films I’ve seen are laid back comedies like A League of Their Own, Caddy Shack, or Major League. Continue reading
Antitrust (2001)

This film was made around the same time as when everyone was figuring out how much Bill Gates made a minute. We were all fascinated by this computer geek done well. His story became even more interesting when he was accused of stealing ideas that made him billions. Continue reading

Yet another movie on the ‘why do I own this’ list. This movie is pretty bad, it makes Deuce Bigalow look like Citizen Kane. The female lead is a former contestant on Survivor, so that should give you some idea of the quality of this movie. Continue reading
Anger Management (2003)

I thought I would really hate this movie. Adam Sandler has not impressed me since the late 90s. His previous few movies like Jack and Jill or Just Go With It have been terrible. Continue reading
Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy

This film is hilarious. It’s the perfect combination of absurdity and comedy. It never takes itself too seriously, and the movie thrives on this way of thinking. The version I have on DVD is the uncut release. It includes some very funny scenes that I’m surprised didn’t make the final cut. Continue reading
America’s Sweethearts (2001)
Ben
This was another example where I found myself wondering “why do I own this?” This is not a terrible movie, it’s just not particularly good either. Despite an all star cast, the film never hits the highs that could be expected from a film starring the likes of Billy Crystal and Julia Roberts. Continue reading
